I ran across this great timeline history of American houses that I wanted to share.... As a Georgia Realtor in the north Gwinnett/Barrow/Jackson/Hall county area, I can't say that I see much more than what our local mls classifies as "traditional" or "craftsman" with the occasional "Victorian" or "traditional ranch".
By looking at this timeline, I suppose instead of what we call "traditional", this timeline calls "McMansion". I've never been a big fan of the term "McMansion" with the cookie cutter connotation as for the families that purchase these properties, they are dream homes...a culmination of years of savings, owned with great pride.
Whenever I hear anyone mention the American Dream, I automatically equate this with a home of one's own. For some people, it also means owning one's own business, freedom to live as you please and much more. But for me, it always comes back to a home.
Personally, my American Dream Home always includes a pool. Since I was about 9 years old, I've dreamed of having a pool in my backyard. I must admit that a certain amount of my friendships at that age developed around whether or not a potential friend had a backyard pool...!
But that's just me...for others the American Dream Home means having land, a place for animals, an intown loft, etc, etc...
Whatever you heritage, style and background, let's talk about what makes for your American Dream House!
Happily hunting houses,
